Our Mission
We create handcrafted goods that blend function, creativity, and character for everyday life, small businesses, and custom collaborations.
Crafted by hand. Built with purpose.
Rooted in community.
Waterloo Works is a small artist collective based in Warrenton, Virginia, creating handcrafted functional design from sustainable, durable materials. Our work blends woodworking, fiber-arts tools, home décor, signage, puzzles, art kits, and custom creations, all made with the goal of building pieces that are meant to be used and meant to last.
Waterloo Works is run by Dennis and Summer Skillman, Navy veterans, makers, and lifelong creators who found their home in small-town Virginia after years of living around the United States and abroad. After retiring from military service, they chose to put down roots, build a workshop, and spend their time creating the kinds of things they enjoy using in their own lives.
Dennis began woodworking as a hobby after retiring from the Navy and quickly developed a passion for building pieces that are strong, functional, and built to last. From furniture and charcuterie boards to frames, signs, and custom projects, he enjoys spending time in the workshop — or as he calls it, “piddling” — working out new ideas and designs.
Summer has been crafting and making art since childhood and is an active fiber artist, designing tools and accessories for knitters and crocheters that are both practical and thoughtfully made. Many of Waterloo Works’ fiber-arts tools were created because she wanted something that didn’t exist, and knew other makers would want it too.
Together, they create handcrafted pieces for people who appreciate quality, usefulness, and the character that comes from something made by hand. They also partner with local businesses, fellow creatives, and wholesale buyers to create custom products, displays, and collaborative work that feels personal, practical, and lasting.
